Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Dirgent
Doyen Stanislaw Skrowaczewski once again proved that
he has something new to contribute to the symphonic
standard repertoire – even in the case of the most frequently
played cycle of symphonies of all – Beethoven’s
symphonies. And he continues in the same vain as he
now turns to Robert Schumann’s symphonies: “This
is an extraordinary release, distinguished in every way…
these are remarkably arresting readings that give welcome
and pointed freshness to familiar scores”, a the British
International Record Review commented in their
review of symphonies 1&4.
The recordings previously published separately are
now available together in a boxed set.
“It is quite astonishing, and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski
shows it just like Kurt Masur or Sir Charles Mackerras:
the more some conductors advance in years, the younger
their temperament seems to get. These Schumann symphonies
show some excitingly fast music making, and a
kind of vitality throughout, some internal fire, that other
conductors may not even hope to achieve during their
youth.” Pizzicato
