Münchner Flötenensemble · Elisabeth Weinzierl, Edmund Wächter, artistic directors
The Münchner Flötenensemble uses instruments in all ranges of the flute family, some of which were developed especially for the group. The inherent capacity of a large flute orchestra has also inspired a number of contemporary composers to write original works for the Münchner Flötenensemble. Three examples of such works can be heard on this CD. But arrangements of chamber music from the traditional orchestral realm, represented on this recording by compositions of Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn, are also highly exciting to listen to.
The flute ensemble has a respectable tradition. The first “Flute Clubs” developed in the USA around 1900; their members were primarily amateurs who wanted to play together. Professional ensembles first developed ca. 1960 in Japan, and later in Europe. The Münchner Flötenensemble gave its debut in 1991 and has appeared since then in concerts and radio broadcasts.
