This programme comprises a selection of Weinberg’s early works, the piano quintet and some of the Children’s
Notebooks which he wrote during the last two years of the Second World War.
Born in Warsaw in 1919, Weinberg fled to Moscow in 1939. There he made friends with Shostakovich, who provided
continuous support. Weinberg's output includes 22 symphonies, 17 string quartets and numerous chamber pieces, in
addition to his operas Wir gratulieren! (OC990) and Die Passagierin. Weinberg died in Moscow in 1996.
This recording features pianist Elisaveta Blumina, with Noah Bendix-Balgley (violin), Shanshan Yao (violin), Máté
Szücs (viola) and Bruno Delepelaire (cello).
