The young Berlin Kuss Quartet is the talk of the music world – like hardly any other newcomer quartet before. At home in the classic-romantic standard repertoire as well as when playing new and ‘newest’ music (they premiered Russian composer Lera Auerbach’s String Quartet No. 1 early this year), they have filled international chamber music audiences with enthusiasm. The teachers of the Kuss Quartet include the Alban Berg Quartet, Walter Levin of the LaSalle Quartet as well as Martha and Paul Katz of the Cleveland Quartet. The Kuss Quartet is also a prizewinner of the Deutsche Musikrat and won First Prize in the renowned Borciani Competition in 2002.

OehmsClassics is now presenting a recording of the Kuss Quartet with works of two famous wunderkinder. Mendelssohn’s major String Quartet in F Minor, op. 80 is presented with the seldom heard Capriccio from op. 81. Mozart is represented with an early work as well as a quartet from his late period (K. 80 and K. 546).
