      During the past years, Alexander Schimpf has attracted attention thanks to an impressive series of important successes at competitions, fi rst by winning the prize of the German Music Competition in 2008 (an award that no pianist had won for 14 years), fi rst prize at the International Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 2009 and fi nally fi rst prize in 2011 at the International Piano Competition in Cleveland/USA as the fi rst German pianist in the history of the competition ever to win fi rst prize. Since these major successes, his career has taken on international dimensions - his concert calendar for 2011 alone included debut performances at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin as well as at Zankel Hall/Carnegie Hall in New York.
