Mitschnitt von den Salzburger Festspielen 2004
The opening of the 2004 Salzburg Festival turned out to be a sensation! Accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic under Seiji Ozawa, Benjamin Schmid performed the Violin Concerto, op. 35 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Originally premiered by violin legend Jascha Heifetz in 1947, Schmid brought all brilliance in this colorful music to light and electrified the audience with his absolute command of the work’s technical extremes, playing in the tradition of the major romantic virtuosos. “We are happy to add his name to the league of his generation’s leading violinists,” wrote Peter Cossé of the STANDARD.
Further live recordings of Korngold performances from the 2004 Salzburg Festival complete this album, namely Benjamin Schmid’s chamber music concerto with the Suite op. 23 and the Four Pieces, op. 11 as well as the Gesang der Heliane op. 20, played by violinist David Frühwirt and pianist Henri Sigfridson.
